Hidden behind the Awair Baby’s beautiful design is a high-tech machine that will help you keep tabs on your home air quality. Awair was developed by an engineer whose baby was suffering from eczema related to poor air quality. It turns out that indoor air pollution can be five times worse than the air outside, and it can affect respiratory health, sleep, focus, mood, immunity and more—for babies and adults.

Awair tracks air temperature, humidity, toxins, chemicals (VOCs), dust and carbon dioxide, the five key factors that determine air quality. You get readings for each category, plus a color-coded combined air quality score on a scale of 0 to 100—your “Awair Score”—so you know your air quality in real time, at a glance.

Going a step further, Awair has partnered with the Mayo Clinic to give you specific recommendations on how to improve the air quality in your home, letting you know when you need to run an air purifier or a humidifier, or even when you need to do some cleaning. (Don’t be offended—it happens to all of us!). You can get detailed information on your smartphone or tablet through the app (it connects via Bluetooth to your Awair Baby), and set preference modes to improve your family’s sleep, allergies and general health.

The app also lets you track your air over time to better understand your indoor environment—you can easily see patterns and changes on the timeline feature. You can also use Awair Baby with smart home assistants Nest or Google Home to turn on other your other devices remotely when your Awair Score drops.

Awair Baby can monitor approximately 1,000 square feet of space, but you can use it with the Awair Glow to track air quality throughout your entire home if needed. Note that the two have slightly different functionalities: Awair Glow has a nightlight and can turn on your humidifier, air purifier or dehumidifier when air quality drops via a smart plug, but it doesn’t track dust or have a display like Awair Baby does.

Neither the Baby or Glow are stand-alone machines. You need to use them with your smartphone or tablet and the Awair app, with Bluetooth and WiFi connections are required. Smart home integrations are possible with either one: they both work with Google Home and IFTTT, but only Baby works with Nest and only Glow works with Alexa.
