Together, the Owlet Cam and the Owlet Smart Sock 2 create a complete baby monitoring system, with video, audio and vitals.

Owlet Smart Sock 2

Owlet’s Smart Sock 2 takes the baby monitor concept up a few notches by tracking your baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels while they sleep—and notifying you if something changes. The smart sensor—which measures oxygen with clinically proven pulse oximetry—fits in a cotton “sock” that wraps comfortably around your baby’s foot. Each Smart Sock comes with three sock sizes, so it can grow with your baby.

The Smart Sock communicates with a base station via Bluetooth with a 100-foot range. The base station is illuminated in green when all is well, but notifies you with lights and sounds if there’s a problem. You can also connect to the Owlet app to get notifications and stream real-time data on your phone.

Drawbacks of this system: the app connection is Wifi dependent, and the sock needs to be plugged in to charge when your baby’s not sleeping. It takes about three hours to fully change, and the charge lasts for about 18 hours. Some parents will love this little machine for the peace of mind it provides, and it can be super helpful if your baby has a medical condition.

Do be aware that, though it can alert you to potential problems, it has not been tested to prevent SIDS.

Owlet Cam

With 1080 HD video that streams directly to the Owlet app, the Owlet Cam provides you with a clear view of baby whether you’re at work, on a trip or just in the other room. The 130-degree wide angle lens allows for better viewing of baby. Night vision lets you see baby in a dark room.

The Owlet Cam has two-way audio so you can talk to your baby or soothe them without going into their room, as well as background audio so you can listen to your baby while you use your phone for other things. There’s also a room temperature sensor so you can know if baby’s room is too hot or too cold.

The cam provides a secure connection with encrypted Wifi, and has an easy-to-install wall mount with cord cover.

The app sucks and so does the customer service. Not to mention, the alarm that goes off that scares us and wakes the baby has always been false. The sound on the app doesn’t work no matter how often we restart. So I am unable to know if my baby is okay. I have reached out to customer service many times and all I get is an automated message saying “We are aware of the issue.” But nothing has changed. This product was extremely expensive and equally disappointing. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. DO NOT USE IT. The product itself has caused anxiety which we were hoping to avoid by purchasing. Plus, it is very expensive. If we were able to get a refund I would opt for an actual baby monitor.
