Description

This pump has some good comfort features: a rubber massage cushion on the breast flange (the part of the pump that cups your breast) and the ability to lean back (instead of having to lean forward to make sure the milk trickles into the bottle). The massage is supposed to mimic your baby’s natural sucking and it can be very helpful (unless you have easily irritated skin). Being relaxed helps with milk let-down, so comfort is a priority when purchasing a breast pump! Keep in mind that if the cushion doesn’t feel right you can purchase a different size.

The pump comes with all the parts you need to get started, including breast pads to slip in your bra against drippage and a handy carrying case which is both stylish and discreet. You will need to buy more bottles for storage, but at least this kit makes you all set for the pumping session. However this pump doesn’t work for hands-free pumping which is a big drawback for multitasking moms. To pump efficiently, you have to press on the flanges. Also, there’s no batteries, so you need an outlet to pump.

Since this is a double pump, you’ll be able to pump both breasts at the same time which is the most efficient for milk extraction. (The pump also comes in a single version and a manual version). It’s a closed system meaning it prevents milk from spilling back into the tubing (cleaning milk out of tubes can be a nightmare). All the non-electric parts are dishwasher safe, although you want to sterilize them as well as wash them.

It has a choice of three different suction settings, which is okay, but not quite as good as being able to adjust your suction on a spectrum.

It comes with a two-year warranty, which is good because it’s not uncommon for it to break before the two years are up. However, Philips customer service is pretty good about offering replacements.

One downside of this pump is the noise: it’s noisy for someone who’s trying to be discrete at work. Overall, this is a solid choice, but not a perfect one.
