When it comes to structured carriers, it doesn’t get much easier than the BabyBjorn Original Carrier. Put your arms through the straps - in the same way you’d slip on on a hoodie - and two snaps later, your wee one is secured and ready to go with no assistance. If your baby falls asleep, it’s just as simple to slide him out and into the crib for a longer nap. The front-facing position lets older babies see the world, but isn’t recommended until five months old.

This is a great carrier for shorter stints, but can really make your shoulders and neck ache over time. There’s no waistband to help distribute the baby’s weight and the shoulder straps aren’t padded. (The BabyBjorn Miracle Baby Carrier offers better support for longer periods of babywearing.) Note: This carrier works for babies up to six months old, but once your bundle gets bigger you’ll have to purchase another carrier.

We started using the Baby Bjorn at about 3-4 months. I loved it early on because it was sturdy and my son liked his legs dangling. At about eight months though my son got too heavy for the carrier as it hurt my back to carry him in it. My son especially loved the carrier when he was forward facing.

This was fine for the very early infant stage (although my baby was born in the winter and I VERY rarely went out), but as soon as she gained any weight, the weight distribution on the shoulders was just too much. I upgraded to a Lillebaby (or would have done Ergo) where weight is more on the hips for long-term wearing.

I have learned that narrow-based carriers such as this one are not good for physical development. Wide-based carriers are preferable. I feel like this was a waste of money and I wound up buying another carrier after baby was born.

This product is OK. A little difficult to strap baby in by yourself. My husband needs help every time. I'll try something different for baby #2.

It is so easy to put on and take off! After using a fabric wrap, I really appreciate the ease of this one. It adjusts quickly which is great because my husband and I are very different sizes and we both wear our daughter regularly.

Eventually you will need to buy a carrier with lumbar support when they are bigger but still love this one for when they are little.

It's been a good piece to have when we needed it.
