Description

Designed to grow with your baby from birth to ten years (yes, you read that right), this innovative car seat combines features from two of Graco’s other seats, the 4Ever and the Extend2Fit. It transitions from a rear-facing infant seat with extended legroom (4–50 lbs.) to a forward-facing car seat (22–65 lbs.), a high-back booster (40–100 lbs.) and finally a backless booster (40-120 lbs.).

You can use this car seat in the rear facing direction for infants as small as 4 lbs. (Many families choose to start with an infant-specific car seat and graduate to the convertible around a year. Make an informed choice.)

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends rear-facing seats until age two, but with many seats it’s literally impossible to fit those growing legs in an increasingly tight space. Like the Extend2Fit, this car seat has an extendable leg rest that gives you five extra inches of legroom, considerably lengthening the time you can keep your kiddo in this safest, rear-facing position. (Small-car families take note: this leg rest does mean the car seat will take up more space and the front seat passenger might have to scrunch. For that reason, it’s a better option for minivans and other larger cars.)

When your baby is ready to graduate to front-facing, you can turn this seat around and use it as a front-facing five-point harness seat, then a front facing seatbelt threading high back booster, and finally a backless booster that you use with the car’s seat belt. (You might already know that your child has to stay in a car seat until they are four years old. The real kicker: they also need a booster seat until they are 4’ 9”, which may not be until middle school!)

The 4Ever Extend2Fit is considerably more expensive than Graco’s other convertible car seats. And for all its adaptability, it takes up a lot of space. If you have a small sedan, this might only fit in the middle of the back, and it can prevent some front seats from sliding all the way back. Also the booster portion itself is pretty wide and bulky which you’ll want to keep in mind if you need to put three car seats across your back seat. (If you need to optimize for space, opt for a smaller convertible car seat and then graduate your child to a narrow booster seat as they grow.)

Installation in every position is straightforward with the seat’s LATCH anchors, and it has a bubble indicator to show if it’s installed in the correct level position. (It is pretty heavy to move between cars or to take out for traveling.) Once your child is more than 42 lbs. (around five years), you’ll need to attach the car seat using seat belts, not LATCH.

The no-rethread adjustable harness is incredibly simple to use and has ten positions to grow with baby. The car seat cover is easy to remove and wash when it gets dirty, and the seat comes with two cup holders, which come in handy as places to stash snacks and toys in addition to drinks.
