Best Night Lights of 2019

Cute and functional, these will help with late-night feedings and anyone's fear of the dark.Best Night Lights of 2019

Once you become a parent, bedtime becomes pure bliss: your little one turns into a sleeping cherub, the world becomes still and you all get a much-needed rest. Or at least that’s what you dream of!

The reality—during the first year, you’ll be in and out of the nursery multiple times a night to feed and change your baby. And later, coughing and colds, bad dreams and potty training will mean middle-of-the-night wake-ups for toddlers.

A night light is indispensable for predawn activity. (Trust us—at 2 a.m., overhead lights will look like the surface of the sun.) A night light provides enough brightness to change diapers or feed your baby, but is gentle on blurry eyes. The dim light also keeps you and your child in sleep-time mode. And for toddlers, who fight going to bed like it’s their job, a night light eases fears of the dark.

Here are the night lights we think are worth waking up for.

3-in-1

The Hatch Baby Rest may look simple on the outside, but this high-tech night light plus so much more is one of our favorite nursery items thanks to its innovative design and multifunction capabilities. Controlled and programmable by touch or remotely by phone, the Rest combines a night light and sound machine (each with tons of themes) with an OK-to-wake clock to create a custom sleeping environment for your little one. It’s everything you need to take you from day one all the way through the toddler years and beyond.

A Light-Up Friend

Super-active toddlers calm down when they get to cuddle this cute, battery-powered turtle and gaze at the colorful stars it projects on the ceiling. The glowing shell can be set to one color or rotate through three different soothing hues. And a 45-minute timer means the room will go dark after your child dozes off, which lets your little one get the most restorative sleep. (There is an option to keep the turtle on all night, though.) Keep in mind that you can only spot clean this plush nightlight.

Sleep + Song

Another multifunction night light, this adorable owl is a light, sound machine and star projector all rolled into one. The light, which can be dimmed, offers a warm glow and adds just the right amount of brightness to your little one’s nursery. (Not to mention looking pretty cute just sitting on a dresser or shelf.) With eight different melodies and nature sounds to choose from, there’s just the right soothing sound for every baby. And the adjustable lens projects stars at any angle so your little one won’t be able to miss them.

Cute and Portable

Part high-tech toy, part night light, and all adorable and awesome. LumiPets are soft, silicone light-up pets that come in five different animal shapes and are cordless, portable and rechargeable. They emit a soft, soothing light (there are eight colors to choose from, changeable via a remote or simply by a tap right on the animal) and totally safe for your little one to tote around. There’s also a basic version (no remote) and a Bluetooth-enabled version too.

Modern Lantern

Cord free and cute, this owl night light looks great on a nursery shelf, and when your child is older, it’s perfect for navigating the halls to get to the bathroom or your room—or even for taking on trips. The handle makes it totable, and the one-button switch makes it easy for kids to turn on by themselves. Most importantly, the night light is LED-powered and stays cool to the touch. A 20-minute timer automatically shuts off the nightlight to conserve the battery life.

Easy Touch Controls

Leave the Vava Nightlight plugged in on a dresser to turn on for nighttime feedings, or unplug it to tote around. Either way, the Vava works to produce your choice of cool white or warm white light. Touch controls let your toddler turn the light on and off with simple tapping. The LED Vava is also waterproof and can last for hours on a single charge so you can take this with you on camping trips too. You can leave it on all night, or set the 1.5-hour timer.

Dimensions 2.6” x 2.6” x 4.3”

Seeing Stars

Your little one will be seeing stars (in the best possible way, of course) with this glowing ceramic sphere that casts a night sky on nearby surfaces and a warm, glowing light across the room. This tabletop night light features an easy on-off switch (there’s no automatic on or off features here) and parents love that the light casts just the right balance between bright and dim for that perfect soothing glow.

No S'mores Included

An adorable accent to an outdoor or woodland theme, this plug-in night light features a wood base (the campfire logs) and a plastic “flame.” Some parents say it provides a lot of light with the included 5W bulb, so you might want to consider a lower-wattage bulb if it’s too much for you. If camping isn’t quite your thing, check out Crate and Kids’ other ridiculously cute nightlights, like this big ol’ gummy bear or even this adorable LED cursive sign.

Futuristic Fun

Like something out of a cartoon, the Boon Glo is a little bit kooky but still very practical. Three removable balls set in “branches” light up and change color. But you can also take them out to tuck in with your toddler (to keep the monsters away!), or your tot can take one with them to go down the hallway. The balls are perfectly safe—there are no electronics in them—and lose their glow after 30 minutes off the LED stand. The Boon Glo will need tabletop space to be plugged in.
