3 Nuna Convertible Car Seats, Explained: Which One Fits Your Family?
3 Nuna Convertible Car Seats, Explained: Which One Fits Your Family?

If you’ve ever gone down the car seat rabbit hole, you know how quickly things can feel a little overwhelming. Convertible seats, rotating seats, booster modes…it’s a lot, especially when all you really want is something that’s safe, easy to use, and even easier to fit into your life (and your back seat).

To help make things clearer, Babylist mom of two Julie sits down with toddler mom (and mom-to-be) Steph to walk through three Nuna convertible car seats—the RAVA next, EXEC next and REVV maxx—and talk through what actually matters when you’re choosing one.

All three seats come with a similar set of safety and comfort features, so the decision often comes down to how you’ll use it day-to-day. Let’s take a closer look. Watch the video for their full conversation, or keep reading for the highlights.

But first, what is a convertible car seat?

Unlike infant car seats that click in and out of a base, a convertible car seat stays in your car and grows with your child. You’ll start rear-facing for babies, then switch to forward-facing for toddlers, and in some cases, transition to a booster later on.

Some families move to a convertible seat after the infant stage, while others skip the infant seat altogether and start here from day one. There’s no single right approach. It’s just about what works best for your setup.

What all Nuna convertible seats have in common

Before getting into the differences, it helps to know what you can expect across all three car seats. Here’s what they share:

  • Built-in side impact protection

  • Materials made without added fire-retardant chemicals

  • A no-rethread harness, so you can adjust the fit as your child grows without taking the seat apart

  • An adjustable headrest that moves with your child

  • Multiple recline positions for both rear- and forward-facing

  • Straightforward installation, including the option to use a seat belt instead of LATCH

  • Removable, washable cupholders that fit everything from sippy cups to bigger water bottles

In other words, whichever seat you choose, you’re starting with a solid mix of safety, comfort and ease. See these features in action from 0:50-1:43

So, what’s the difference?

At this point, the differences can start to feel pretty specific, and that’s normal. Each seat is designed with a slightly different priority in mind, whether that’s long-term use, everyday convenience or saving space in your back seat. Here’s how they compare:

Nuna RAVA next (2:02)

A good fit if you want a straightforward, premium convertible seat

If you’re looking for a classic convertible car seat—no extra features, just a well-built, easy-to-use design—the RAVA next is exactly that.

It works from 5 to 50 pounds rear-facing and 30 to 65 pounds forward-facing, giving you a long runway through the early years. The 10-position headrest makes it easy to keep up with growth spurts, and it offers extra rear-facing legroom, which can make a difference for taller toddlers.

This is a great option if you want something dependable and easy to use, without added modes.

Nuna EXEC next (2:31)

A good fit if you’re thinking long-term

The EXEC next builds on the RAVA next and adds more longevity.

You’ll get the same rear- and forward-facing limits (5 to 50 pounds rear-facing, 30 to 65 pounds forward-facing), plus the ability to convert into a belt-positioning booster for kids from 40 up to 110 pounds (or 4 years old and up). For some families, this could be the only car seat they need.

It also includes a 12-position headrest for more adjustability and a generous footrest. When you switch to booster mode, the harness stores right inside the seat, so you’re not keeping track of extra parts.

Like the RAVA next, it has a relatively slim profile (and can even fit three across many back seats), which can work well in most mid-sized vehicles if you’re planning for multiple seats.

If you like the idea of buying once and using it for years, this one is built to stick with you.

Nuna REVV maxx (3:31)

A good fit if easier ins and outs are a top priority

The REVV maxx is all about making daily routines feel a little easier, especially if you’re tired of leaning into the back seat at awkward angles.

Its standout feature is 360-degree rotation. You can turn the seat toward you to buckle your child in, then rotate it back into position. And it doesn’t have to be reinstalled to switch from rear- to forward-facing as they grow. For many parents, that alone can make a big difference.

It works from birth up to 65 pounds and includes the same no-rethread harness and adjustable headrest.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

  • The rear-facing limit is 40 pounds (compared to 50 pounds on the RAVA next and EXEC next), though that still works for most kids well past age two

  • Rotating seats usually need a bit more clearance to turn

That said, it’s still relatively compact for a rotating seat, measuring about 18.5 inches wide without the cupholders.

If your priority is making everyday buckling and unbuckling simpler, especially with a wiggly toddler, this one can be a big help.

Which one is right for you?

All three seats offer a similar foundation when it comes to safety, comfort and ease. The difference really comes down to what matters most in your routine:

  • Looking for something simple and reliable? The RAVA next is a great place to start.

  • Want a seat that lasts through multiple stages? The EXEC next is built for long-term use.

  • Hoping to make daily ins and outs easier? The REVV maxx focuses on convenience.

At the end of the day, the “best” car seat isn’t just about features. It’s about what works for your child, your car and your everyday life. And whichever direction you go, future you (probably holding snacks, a water bottle and a very wiggly toddler) will appreciate having one less thing to wrestle with.
