The Top Babylist Baby Names of 2025
The most loved baby names of 2025, plus rising trends and unexpected favorites from Babylist Babes.

In This Article
Every year, Babylist Babes gives us a front-row seat to what inspires parents' baby name choices as they welcome new little ones. So far in 2025, over 6,000 names have been submitted by real Babylist families, and we analyzed the data to find the names parents loved most, the trends shaping their choices and the fresh names rising fast.
While many favorites held strong—names like Charlotte, Sophia, Oliver and Luca—the top of the list saw a few notable shifts. Olivia climbed back into the number one spot from third (after being replaced by Sophia last year), and Noah moved into the number one boy name spot, bumping last year’s winner, Oliver.
Others, like Joseph, made dramatic leaps up the chart, while past hits like Hazel and Theodore fell slightly.
As a whole, this year’s list reflects where parents' naming vibes are landing. The choices feel bold but grounded—familiar enough to feel classic, fresh enough to feel personal.
Also, we want to hear from YOU! Whether you picked a name for its meaning, sound, family connection or something else entirely, we’d love to know more. Take our quick poll and tell us your baby’s name story. Your input could help shape next year’s trends.
The Top Baby Names of 2025
Top 10 Girl Names
While a few long-time girl name faves like Charlotte, Sophia and Emma remain in the top 10, Olivia overtook them all and now ranks as the most popular girl name on Babylist Babes. A few newcomers include Amelia in third place, and vintage-eqsue fave Eleanor at number seven. We predicted short and sweet names would be popular in 2025, and Lily and Ava are evidence. Lucy jumped up a couple spots, up two from last year. Isabella also made it back into the top 10, at number eight.

Top 10 Boy Names
The top Babylist Babes boy names of 2025 changed rather significantly, and now align more closely with the SSA’s most popular names for boys. Cooper climbed up to the tenth most popular (last year it was in the 24 spot). Noah took first place, but it was a close call between that, Henry and Oliver—all of which also dominated Babylist Babes. This shows that while name trends shift with the times, parents are still loving the classics, no matter how popular they remain.

How Names Shifted from 2024 to 2025
Names That Rose in Rank
Some names didn't just stay popular—they surged. In 2025, a handful of familiar favorites made big moves in Babylist Babes, proving their staying power. But there was still room for some fresh standouts.
Among baby names for boys, Mateo made a dramatic debut into the top 100—from 103 to 29—capturing parents’ attention with its multicultural charm and melodic sound. Joseph also climbed back into favor, showing that traditional names still have a strong pull.
On the girls' side, Aurora shimmered into the spotlight, landing squarely in the top 100 for the first time. It has a dreamy, celestial feel, so it’s no surprise that parents are gravitating toward its magic. Emilia, too, saw a notable rise, offering a softer, romantic alternative to the long-popular Amelia. And while newer favorites flourished, Isabella and Luna saw slight dips, suggesting that even long-time favorites evolve with the trends.
These shifts hint at a larger naming movement in 2025: a balance between the classic and the whimsical, where enduring names find new life alongside fresh picks.
Names That Dropped
While some names soared in 2025, others took a step back—proving that even longtime favorites can fall out of fashion, if only temporarily.
For girls, Ellie experienced one of the steepest drops, falling from the top 20 in 2024 to the 50s in 2025. Its sweet, nickname vibe may be giving way to more formal or lyrical alternatives like Eleanor or Eliana. Isla, known for its soft sound and minimalist appeal, also saw a noticeable decline—slipping from the top 10 last year to just outside the top 30.
On the boys’ side, Levi and Everett, while still holding spots in the top 100, cooled off slightly in 2025. Their subtle decline may reflect a shift away from once-trendy staples as parents explore fresher or more unexpected picks.

As naming trends continue to shift, even the most beloved names can experience a lull. Still, with their timeless charm, many of these names are likely to rise again—just on their own timeline.
