Needing new clothes to accommodate your growing baby bump can be both exciting and overwhelming. Where do you start? What do you really need?
The good news is, there are plenty of options for where to shop. Many brands offer maternity lines, from popular brands like Old Navy to higher-end retailers such as Hatch. And you don’t have to spend a fortune when setting up your maternity wardrobe, there are options for every budget.
You can purchase starter kits that provide several basics or even rent clothes from a maternity clothing subscription service like Rent the Runway where you can pay a monthly flat rate to borrow clothes and even have a stylist pull pieces together for you.
But if you love the thrill of the hunt and want to find your own perfect pieces, here are our favorite brands for maternity clothes.
Gap Maternity: Jeans, Jeans and More Jeans
If you live in jeans, you’ll need pair of maternity jeans to rock for the next nine months. Look to the Gap for help—the store made its name selling a variety of blues. Their maternity jeans come in four cuts (skinny jeans, jeggings, slim and relaxed) and two different panel styles. Panels range from just a little bit of elastic set into a traditional waistband to a full elastic panel you pull over your belly. Gap makes great leggings too.

A Pea in the Pod: Iconic Maternity Brand
There’s a reason that big designer names like 7 for All Mankind, BCBG Max Azria and Splendid want to collaborate with this brand: name recognition. A Pea in the Pod has been making parents-to-be look amazing for decades. Here you can find quality construction and flattering looks that won’t go out of style by the time you decide to do it all over again.

Kindred Bravely: For Your Lingerie Drawer
Want a nursing bra that you could practically live in? Kindred Bravely has you covered with stylish designs and a wide range of sizes to fit everyone—you can even maximize your cup space by selecting one of their “busty” sizes. Best of all, they have super stretchy but supportive nursing tanks with built-in bras. Trust us, you’ll wear these 24 hours a day in the third trimester—as your breasts rapidly change shape—and for breastfeeding or pumping postpartum. The brand also carries sleepwear, activewear (we love their nursing sports bra) and underwear, all at an affordable price point.

Girlfriend Collective Maternity: So You Can Stay Active
Staying active is important when you’re pregnant—and yes, it is possible to still do downward dog with a beach ball-sized belly. And to help keep you comfy and cool during your workouts, we love these soft, lightweight bike shorts from Girlfriend Collective. What we love even more though is Girlfriend Collective’s philosophy: eco-friendly, sustainable activewear with 100% transparency about their materials and processes, so you can feel really good about what you work out in.
PinkBlush Maternity: Plus-Sized Posh
Pregnancy comes in all shapes and sizes, so we think maternity clothes should, too. While most brands will provide some plus-sized maternity styles, they’re usually limited in look and size. Not at PinkBlush. While they have a huge variety of styles for XS-XL sizes as well as Tall and Petite, their 1X-3X options are truly impressive (we’re talking 700+ plus-sized maternity looks). Everything is guaranteed to be on-trend, like this open-front kimono, which we love for its versatility.
