Quince Now Makes Maternity Clothes—So We Put Them to the Test

“Have you tried Quince yet?”

It’s a question I hear from my non-pregnant friends all the time. And now that the brand has a maternity line, I’m hearing it from the pregnant friends in my life, too.

Quince has built a loyal following for its elevated basics and approachable price points. This direct-to-consumer brand makes everything from sweaters and woven flats to furniture and jewelry, all and prices much lower than many of their competitors. (I have a long list of Quince favorites, including their cotton boyfriend sweater, cashmere tee, puffer jacket, linen sheets, leather totes and many more.)

The brand’s maternity collection makes a similarly appealing promise: comfortable, polished pieces you can wear throughout pregnancy and, in many cases, postpartum too. But we were curious: how do the clothes actually fit? Are they as comfortable as they look? And will they hold up to regular wear and washing?

To find out, we asked Mallory, a member of Babylist’s merchandising team, to put seven pieces to the test. Mallory is 5’7” and was around 25 weeks pregnant when she started testing, and tried a variety of items—from maternity basics like leggings and a midi dress to more elevated pieces like an oxford button-down. She wore the clothes in her everyday life for about a month before sharing her thoughts on everything from fit and comfort to quality and versatility.

Here’s what she loved (and what she’d actually buy herself), what was just okay and what she’d skip.

One important note: Quince provided the clothing in this guide at no cost, but this article isn’t sponsored, and the brand didn’t pay us for coverage. The opinions are entirely ours.

Quince cotton cashmere set.

Of the seven pieces Mallory tested, this matching set was the clear winner. It’s comfortable enough for lounging but polished enough to wear out—and both pieces work during pregnancy, postpartum and beyond.

“I LOVE this set,” she said. “This was by far my favorite. No notes.”

The cotton-cashmere fabric is extremely soft, while the relaxed fit leaves plenty of room for a growing belly without looking frumpy. “I didn’t really know what to expect when I put this on, but it’s the most comfortable thing I’ve ever put on my body,” Mallory said. “Not one part of the set digs into you.”

She also loved how easy it was to dress up or down. “It looks really put together,” she said.

“I would spend my own money on this.”

What else you need to know:

  • The pants have a really stretchy waistband. Our tester said she wore it at her belly button or pulled it all the way over her bump, and found it comfortable either way.

  • A discreet zipper tucked into one side of the tank provides easy postpartum nursing access.

  • The set is made from a combination of organic cotton, viscose and cashmere. Both pieces are machine washable.

Ultra-soft leggings

Quince Ultra-soft leggings.

Ah, the maternity legging. Some are too tight; others are too loose. Some have seams that dig into your belly, while others have waistbands that roll down every time you take a seat. Finding that just-right pair is more work than it should be.

Mallory was pleasantly surprised by Quince’s version, especially for under forty bucks. (The pregnancy and postpartum cult favorite Lululemon Align leggings will run you about $100.)

“These leggings were definitely one of my favorite things I tested,” she said. “They were super comfortable. I've worn them to work out. I've worn them to lounge. They don't ride up in any sort of unflattering spots. They are very, very flattering for maternity leggings. I would spend my own money on these for sure.”

They also held up well. She wore and washed them several times a week throughout testing and said they looked no worse for the wear.

What else you need to know:

  • Mallory skipped the dryer and hung the leggings to dry, which she thinks helped keep them in good shape.

  • The leggings are high-rise and designed to sit over your belly.

  • They come in short and regular lengths.

Quince Classic button-down.

A classic white button-down is a wardrobe staple that works before, during and after pregnancy. You can dress it up for the office, toss it on with leggings or wear it unbuttoned as an extra layer.  Mallory was a big fan of Quince’s version.

“This is a great oversized button-down. It’s comfortable. It works for maternity, and honestly, I’ll wear it beyond my pregnancy, too,” she said.

Pro tip: button-downs are really nursing-friendly. And with a roomier fit, there’s space to wear a wearable breast pump inside your nursing bra without changing your entire outfit.

What else you need to know:

  • It’s made from 100% organic cotton.

  • Quince recommends sizing up for an oversized fit.

  • Some Quince reviewers found the white fabric a bit sheer, but that wasn’t an issue for our tester.

Quince Lightweight Cotton Cashmere Nursing Shawl.

Because Mallory wasn’t nursing yet, she couldn’t test this cashmere shawl for its primary purpose, but she appreciated that she could still wear it during pregnancy. “It’s a cool concept,” she said. “You could wear this not even nursing, like over a T-shirt.”

The organic cotton + cashmere blend is super soft to the touch, and the material is light and breathable, making it ideal for layering. “It almost has little holes in it,” she said.

What else you need to know:

  • You can use this shawl for feeding, but it also works as a stroller blanket or car seat cover.

  • It comes in one size.

  • It’s made from a blend of organic cotton, viscose and cashmere. You can machine wash and dry it or hang it to dry.

An easy, one-and-done outfit

Quince Ultra-Soft Maternity Midi Dress.

Quince Ultra-Soft Maternity Midi Dress.

There’s a lot to love about a one-and-done maternity outfit, especially when it’s comfortable enough for everyday wear but still looks pulled together. This midi dress checks those boxes thanks to its stretchy activewear fabric, simple square neckline and built-in shelf bra.

“You put it on and you’re good to go,” Mallory said. “You could wear it to the grocery store, to dinner, whatever. It’s very versatile.” She found the dress true to size, soft and comfortable. She said it washed well and still looked great after repeated wear.

Her one hesitation was the fit. The dress is fairly form-fitting, and the midi length hit her at an awkward spot that she didn’t find especially flattering. “It’s a great throw-on dress,” she said. “It just fell on me in kind of a weird spot.” Fit will likely depend on your height and body shape, though—and despite the less-than-perfect length, she said she would still recommend it.

What else you need to know:

  • The fabric is moisture-wicking, a nice touch since the design is form-fitting and a heavier fabric might cause you to overheat.

  • The built-in shelf bra offers light support.

  • There is ruching on either side of this dress, which some pregnant women like, but others don’t.

  • It’s made from 86% polyester and 14% spandex and can be machine washed and tumble dried on low.

A bit too oversized

Quince Organic Cotton Maternity Overalls.

Comfort-wise, these overalls earned high marks, with Mallory noting they were “incredibly comfortable.” But they fell short on fit and design.

“I was about 25 weeks pregnant when I got them and the crotch area was still pretty big,” she said. “It’s good because you can grow into them and they keep fitting you, but they were just a little bit unflattering.”

The tie-back design was another drawback. “You have to tie them tight in the back, which is a little bit annoying,” she noted. “And when you’re driving, the ties dig into your back.” Other reviewers on Quince’s website agree, noting the ties make bathroom trips (something you do a lot as a pregnant person) much more complicated.

What else you need to know:

  • The fabric is 95% organic cotton and 5% spandex for stretch.

  • You can machine wash and dry them.

👖 True to size: oversized fit with lots of extra room in the crotch area

Our Verdict: Is Quince Maternity Worth It?

Based on the seven pieces we tested, yes, we think Quince maternity delivers—especially if you’re looking for comfortable, good-quality basics at approachable price points.

We’re impressed with the materials, overall comfort and how well almost everything held up. The collection isn’t packed with statement pieces, and not every silhouette was a winner for our tester. But that simplicity is also part of its appeal. These are casual, easy-to-wear pieces you’ll reach for again and again during and post-pregnancy, perfect for building a capsule wardrobe.
