The Best Baby Gear For Tall Parents (According To Real Tall Parents)
Say goodbye to hunching over, crouching down and overextending to reach your baby.

Most baby gear is built for people of average heights, and as a parent who is 5 feet 10 inches, I know firsthand how frustrating it can be to find gear that doesn’t require you to hunch, crouch, or become a contortionist to use it. Products like strollers, car seats, baby carriers and even changing tables have to be heavily vetted to ensure you can comfortably reach them or else risk straining your back.
To find what really works, we turned to tall Babylist parents who shared the baby gear picks that made their lives easier. Some of the most popular picks were strollers with telescoping handles, easily adjustable carriers that fit the length of a longer torso and a tall dresser or changing table. We also talked to our resident safety expert and senior gear editor Jen LaBracio and Babylist associate editor Amylia Ryan (both members of the tall mom club, 5 feet 10 inches to be specific) about their top picks. These are the best tall parent-approved baby gear picks, according to tall parents (including myself).
On-the-Go Gear
Strollers with Adjustable Handles
One of the highest consideration categories for tall parents was, by far, the stroller choice—and for good reason. Aside from the standard features that you look for like quality wheels, roomy storage basket and reclining ability, as a tall parent, a telescoping handle will ensure you’re not hunching over to push what feels like a doll baby stroller. “A telescoping handlebar was a must for me,” says LaBracio. “I was also very aware of strollers with certain types of crossbars across the bottom, as I'd often kick them with my foot.”
All of these strollers have adjustable handles, which was a top selling point for Babylist parents. I have the Mockingbird stroller, which has a rotating (versus telescoping) handle, and it works for me and my nanny, who is several inches shorter.

Car Seats with Good Leg Room
Leg room for you (and your baby; we’ll explain why) is something to consider, particularly when it comes to convertible car seats. "I need a car seat that's fairly compact front-to-back, even in a larger car, because I need to push the driver's seat far back to fit my legs. So a huge car seat isn't going to fly,” LaBracio says.
And on the flipside, the tall parents we polled said that they’d assume their baby would be in the higher percentile for height (both of my kids are in the 90th+ percentile and always have been), so a roomy seat for their longer legs is important too.
Lastly, rotating car seats were mentioned quite a bit as a back-saving feature that’s worth checking out. Traditional car seats require you to bend down and lean in to buckle up your baby. The rotating feature turns the seat towards your car door, allowing you to stand up straight while you put your baby in. I have the Evenflo Revolve360 and I couldn’t imagine using any other option.
Designed to be used for your child’s car seat riding lifetime, the Graco Extend2Fit has an adjustable extension panel that allows for five extra inches of legroom for your baby as they grow.
You can keep your baby in their infant car seat for longer with this option. The maximum weight and height limit is 30 pounds and 30 inches, and for some perspective, the average baby doesn’t reach 30 inches until about 12 months old. Since this is a baseless seat, it’s more compact, making it a good choice for tall parents who need a bit more leg room while driving.
Evenflo Revolve360 Extend All-in-One Rotational Convertible Car Seat - Rowe
From $353.49The standout feature of the Evenflo Revolve360 is the one-touch turn feature. I have this one installed in my car and being able to swivel the seat around to face me while putting my toddler in the car is invaluable. Compared to other popular rotating car seats on the market, it has a slimmer front-to-back profile. My husband, who is 5 feet 11 inches, drives with the seat behind his chair and it doesn’t limit his leg room.
Carriers That Fit Just Right
My height is mostly concentrated in my torso, which can make finding a baby carrier a challenge. Ryan, whose husband is also tall (6 feet 3 inches, to be exact), says finding the right carrier was high up on her consideration list. “I researched the heck out of the Baby K’Tan wrap carrier. I didn’t have the patience to learn a traditional wrap and loved the idea of a simpler design, but I had to make sure it fit my torso. Same with my husband, who is 6’3”.” These are the carriers, both structured and wraps, that tall parents love.
Wraps have become a more popular option for parents of newborns because they are light, breathable, hold your baby close to you (where they want to be) and they’re easily adjustable for any height or body size. However, they have a notoriously tricky learning curve. The Baby K’Tan gives you all of the benefits of a baby wrap carrier, none of the confusion, and according to Ryan, it’s tall people-friendly.
lillebaby Complete All Seasons 6-1 Baby Carrier - Stone
From $87.99This carrier's wide waist belt accommodates longer torsos, and since there aren’t any newborn inserts, you can use it well into the toddler years (up to 45 pounds). And with six different carrying positions, it’s easy to find one that works for your body and baby. I have this carrier and regularly used it during my daughter’s first year. As a tall parent, I liked the four buckling points as I could adjust it for my longer midsection, and my husband, who has long legs but a shorter torso, could also comfortably fit it to his body.
Ergobaby Omni Classic Cotton Carrier - Pearl Gray
From $137.10Very similar in style to the lillebaby carrier, the Ergobaby Omni Classic has a wider waist belt for longer torsos and four buckling points for a custom fit. This one has a slimmer profile, which could be nice for traveling (it can be folded into a tiny carrying case too). Two tall Babylist parents suggested the Ergobaby Omni, saying “it can better accommodate taller and larger people.”
But if you want a traditional wrap, the Solly Baby wrap is a good option. The material, super soft TENCEL modal, is breathable and stretchy, lending to easier customization when twisting and folding the wrap to fit your body and baby. The Solly is also a bit longer than other wraps on the market, giving more to work with for the perfect fit.
Nursery Essentials
After strollers, tall dressers with a changing pad on top were one of the most recommended solutions for a more comfortable, height-appropriate diaper changing setup (I also used this hack). One parent said, “We bought a four-drawer dresser to use as a changing table since most changing tables are shorter than even a three-drawer dresser.”
Highback gliders or rockers were also highly recommended, with a parent saying, “I made sure that the rocker in our nursery was comfortable and big enough for my height, including being able to fit when I recline.” An adjustable-height bassinet would be another piece of gear to consider to avoid constantly bending over to tend to your baby. All of these nursery picks come highly recommended by tall parents, from comfortable gliders to the adjustable bedside bassinet that I used for my daughter.
Play
Tall parents also spent time researching playpens and baby gates to find options that worked for their height. “We were gifted an XL playpen that allows even my 6'4" husband to lie down in it with our baby. It takes up a lot of floor space, but it's worth it,” one Babylist parent said.
Ryan said she looked for a baby gate that was “tall enough to keep a baby/toddler contained, but also just short enough that we could easily step over them with our long legs. I didn’t want to have to unlock, open, step through, close and re-lock. Just swing my legs over and keep on my way.” For a playpen, the standard size is 50 by 50 inches and the largest size is around 80 by 80 inches. To be low enough to step over, your baby gate should be between 24 and 27 inches in height and up to 30 inches if you’re over 6 feet tall. Here's a a gate you can easily step over and a playpen large enough for you, baby and all of their toys.
Tall Parent Extras
Other parenting products like nursing pillows (one parent said the Boppy is the perfect height for a longer torso), taller high chairs so you aren’t “bending over to feed the baby,” and maternity pillows that are long enough to line up with the length of your body for targeted support. Here are a few favorites.
Maternity Clothes for Taller Frames
Maternity and postpartum clothes designed for taller frames were another essential mentioned often. When it comes to maternity clothes, opt for brands that offer bottoms in a long size (like The Gap) and for brands that offer tops and dresses in tall (this tip is helpful outside of maternity and postpartum clothes shopping). And if you can't find jeans that are the cut and length that you like, you can stick with maternity leggings (my personal favorite). Here are a few options that work for taller people.
